Default formatting choices

Unless otherwise specified, you can start with these default formatting choices. Always read the instructions for the document you are writing carefully before you start writing and adhere to every single one of them.

  • Use font size 11 or 12, Arial, Computer Modern (the default LaTeX font), or Times New Roman.
  • Use 1 inch margins all around.
  • Use Justified text, i.e., spread out so that both edges of each line are aligned with both margins.
  • Use indentation (tab) to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph.
  • Center and bold titles, bold section headlines.
  • Equations that are large need to go in their own line.
